Dutch entrant USC 2000 will be musical star Pia Douwes

In a mini-preselection, the dutch entrant for the 2000 United Song Contest was chosen. It was a battle between dance-act Alice Deejay, Frysian folk-duo Twarres and musical star Pia Douwes.

During the voting Twarres' frysian language song "Wer bisto" was in the lead but after the last jurors votes were cast it was Pia who won the preselection. Pia Douwes will be singing 'Mijn leven is van mij' (I belong to me). Alice Deejay with her song "Will I ever" ended up last.
Pia became famous for her role in the dutch version of the musical "Elisabeth". After the dutch version she made the german version of the musical to even bigger succes. Therefore she already made a german recording of her entry called "Ich gehör nur mir" as well and expressed she had high hopes to walk in the footsteps of Ruth Jacott who won the 1995 USC.

Anita Meyer & Do both surprise with mixed results

In the Winter 2007 edition, Anita Meyer's disco standard sadly and to the surprise of many stranded in the semi finals with her song "Why tell me why". The non-qualifying rumoured favourite was the talk of the night in Stockholm, tactical voting was mentioned by others but Anita nevertheless expressed she had performed well and after thanking the people who voted her she said she hopes she'll be given a second chance in a future USC edition.

The Netherlands win USC 1995

In a hilariously nerve-wrecking voting Ruth Jacott - the dutch entrant to the USC 1995 - ran away with the victory. She had sang her song 'Ik ga door' (I'll survive/go on) and managed to collect the most points (86) from the juries all over Europe. Voting was exciting till the last vote was cast by the Luxemburg jury. The Netherlands were in the lead with a 6 point margin over Portugal who was still pointless in the last vote, but with a douze points would grap the victory. Drama to the max Luxemburg left Portugal in 2nd spot with 80 points and gave thier 12p to (France) Celine Dion's song, leaving Pedro Migueis with "As Coisas Que Nao Esqueci" (The things one doesn't hope for) as runner up. After the voting made it clear beloved Ruth was the winner the crowd went wild and Ruth couldn't stop thanking the people that voted her. Prophetical At the pressconference, she sang especially for the fans to thank them, her 1993 preselection entry "Ik hou van jou" ( I love you) and Ruth expressed that she hoped her song title ('which can be translated as I'll go on, I'll survive or I'll pass) would be prophetical for both her fans and the chances of her fellowdutch singer Anita Meyer who is in the semi's at the 2007 USC Winter Edition. With her song "Why tell me why"
